A National Treasure
Jimmy 'Guitar' Smith is an American National Treasure--a man who writes a song a day, poems, short stories, and
can produce a new high quality CD every few months rather than the years it takes most songwriters to produce
a new CD.
Jazz great, film composer and writer of the "All In The Family" closing theme - Roger Kellaway (who plays
gratis on some of Smith's tunes such as Big Bad Monkey, The Last Of April and Waiting Game) is amazed at his
musical and lyrical abilities, as is Van Dyke Parks, composer and arranger of much of Beachboy Brian
Wilson's later works (see "Orange Crate Art"). These two industry luminaries are ardent Smith boosters.
Jimmy Guitar Smith had one of his compositions, Time Is On The Run, used by Donovan as his closing theme,
and has had some of his thousands of songs covered by as many as 40 minor and major artists.
The redoubtable folk singer and actor Hoyt Axton (wrote Joy To The World and starred in "The Black
Stallion") called Smith "the most prolific S.O.B. I ever met."
Jimmy is a veteran of U.C. Berkeley, a master class with Andres Segovia, The Haight Ashbury and Hollywood music
scenes of the 60's, tours, concerts, studio and production work.
